How to Clean a Radiator – Step by Step Guide

There are times when we are unaware that we are driving the vehicle with an internal engine combustion, so if you have recognized it then you should prefer to flush away the radiator and after that simply replace it with coolant, that is also known as antifreeze. Clean a radiator and save it to get heat up and frozen, you can simply add some fresh coolant in your radiator. In which you have mixed 50% of coolant and 50% of distilled water. Actually, it is so easy to flush away the vehicle’s radiator and then change the coolant present inside it. Here in this article we are discussing the guideline about ways to clean a radiator of the vehicle:

  1. Firstly, you have to open the fill cap of radiator that is present on upper side of the radiator.
  2. After that you can simply use the vehicle manual for finding the location of the petcock of radiator and then you have to put the container on the floor at the underside of the drain, so it could immediately collect the escaping antifreeze.
  3. After that you have to open the drain and prefer to allow the coolant present in it to get drained into the flask until and unless it stops to flow out. After that you have to close the petcock of radiator.
  4. After that now you have to pour the flush product of radiator right into the radiator. Then fill the remaining part with the fresh water and cover it up.
  5. After that you have to run the engine of the vehicle for 10 minutes by turning on the heater until it reaches the operating temperature. After that you have to allow the engine along with radiator to get cool down, so that you could touch it easily.
  6. Then again you have to follow the same procedure by opening the petcock and draining the radiator. You have to again refill the entire system with water and then simply replace the caps. Then again run the engine in the same way for 10 minutes and turn on the heater at operating temperature. After that simply allow the engine to get cool down again.
  7. And repeat the same procedure again for the third time.
  8. After that now you have to refill the 50% of radiator by using pre-diluted coolant that is instructed by the vehicle’s manufacturer. You should prefer to use 50% mixture of both water and coolant.
  9. After that you have to run the engine of the vehicle for 10 minutes by turning on the heater until it reaches the operating temperature. After that you have to allow the engine along with radiator to get cool down, so that you could touch it easily.
  10. After that you should prefer to recheck the level of coolant present inside the radiator from the plastic tank. That’s a place where it should be an indicator present showing full level.
